From Your MCA President, Jim Hill
October 2009
Greetings from the President!
Welcome to Fall! It is a change in seasons. Much like the weather outside, our industry is changing rapidly. Agencies are faced with new challenges on a daily basis. ACA International and MCA are attempting to provide resources so you can identify these changes and have the tools to address them. MCA is trying to help your agency on multiple fronts. At our October meeting, we identified our mission is to protect, preserve, and advance all collection agencies. MCA believes this can be accomplished through Education, Networking, Publicity, and Lobbying. Please look for continued and expanded efforts in these areas. We would welcome any ideas you have.
This is why your participation in MCA is more important than ever. Please make plans to attend our Spring meeting which will be a multi chapter meeting with the State of Illinois.
Thank you.

July 2009
Greetings from the President!
The temperature in July has been unbelievably cool. We have seen rain and clouds. I went to a Cardinal Baseball game in July where the temperature reached as low as the 50s. This weather craziness is similar to the craziness that is impacting our industry. I just returned from the ACA National Convention in Las Vegas and there is a lot of uncertainty swirling around in our industry from regulation and legal issues. These items are affecting agencies of all sizes across the country. Certain laws are written in a conflicting manner which is allowing attorneys to breed on this confusion. Add in some difficult economic times for many debtors and you can see how the path becomes very difficult.
ACA International is attempting to take a very aggressive approach with lobbying and working to have legislation scripted that allows us to do our jobs. They are also looking at a collector registry and adopting a self regulating feature for our industry. These are efforts to provide consumers a place for complaints initially before they go to an extended level.
This all filters down to the state level and this is why your participation in MCA is more important than ever. Please make plans to attend our meetings.
Thank you.
